Milkweed and Greener Grass

One of my greatest small purchases was milkweed. Now I see butterflies in my yard nearly every day. The magic of that is never lost on me. Without even thinking about it I always stop to acknowledge their beauty, the incredible fact that out of all the places their wings could carry them, they chose my humble backyard. I watch them dance in the wind, effortless and free. Watching them I realize, that I too have grown wings.
For so long, I thought the ability to fly meant escaping to somewhere far away, but these butterflies remind me the most profound use for wings isn’t to escape to something perceived as better, but to find the beauty exactly where I am.
I’m learning to fly in the beauty of my life I have here and now.
My wings aren’t for leaving, but for rising just high enough to see my world from a new perspective.
And just as butterflies find everything they need in a small patch of milkweed, I am finding that in my life, in all its simplicity, is a place worth landing.
Now, I’ve finally stopped waiting for the wind to carry me away to what’s “better”. I can actually enjoy the breeze that moves through my own beautiful garden.
